Aging in place
(aka 'age in place') is the ability to live in one's own
home and community - wherever that might be - for as long as confidently
and comfortably possible. Livability can be extended through
the incorporation of universal design principles, telecare
and other assistive technologies.
The
Universal Design Home Project was Designed by
SOSH Architects and developed in partnership with
AARP and the Center for Universal
Design at North Carolina State University.
In its commitment to demonstrate the
importance of Universal
Design in both new construction and
remodeling, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA)
funded the design and construction of a Universal Design
Demonstration Home in Atlantic City to showcase affordable
new construction and practical universal design features which
may be incorporated into all new construction and home
remodeling/renovation projects.
