"6 North Apartments is the nations first large
scale apartment building to incorporate the principles of Universal Design."
The trend is growing to making housing and buildings accessible to
everyone. It's about designing environments with the actual users
in mind without the expectation of them having to adapt to their living
space.
"This is the future," according to Andrew Trivers, founding architect
of Trivers Associates. "People are living longer and because of
healthcare technology, they aren't dying from accidents and disabilities
the way they used to. So the question is, how do you design so it
doesn't look like it is for or is only useable by someone with a
specialized need?"
